Police secure person with weapon inside Saint Francis Hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A person pulled out a weapon inside Saint Francis Hospital, but police brought the situation under control.

According to police, a nurse called police saying a man was assaulting another man inside the hospital and the victim pulled out a gun.

No shots were fired, police said.

Police said they secured the person and his weapon.

The hospital was briefly on lockdown, but that has since been lifted.

A Saint Francis Healthcare representative issued the following statement:

Earlier today, the Memphis Police Department assisted Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis in investigating an altercation on the premises.  We have activated additional security measures for the safety of our employees, patients and their families.  The hospital was placed on temporary lockdown and normal operations have since resumed. The safety of our patients, employees and guests is our first priority.
