MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- It's called the Welcome Inn, but this motel was far from welcoming Wednesday morning as crime scene tape and swarms of investigators separated WREG cameras from the spot of yet another violent shooting.

"I heard the ambulance coming down the road and I thought to myself, 'Oh no, not again,'" said Allen Ward. "I mean, it's a bad place."

For some it's just another motel, but it's where Ward calls home.

"A lot of good people stay here but there's some bad here," he said. "They're trying to clean it up, trying to make it better, but you can only do so much."

Just after 8 a.m., police said two men were shot at the motel on Summer Avenue off of I-40. One was hit in the chest, the other in the side.

"My room's right next door to the room where the people got shot," said Patrick Himes.

"It happens all the time," he said. "Not really here, but this is Memphis," he added.

One witness said he heard about eight gunshots as people ate breakfast at the Waffle House just a few feet away, then saw a man take off in a black four-door car with a woman behind the wheel.

Both victims are expected to be okay.
