MEMPHIS, Tenn. --Memphis Police have released surveillance pictures of a man they say stole copper wiring for a church's air conditioning unit.

The cage that was supposed to protect the AC is still clearly locked. Those cameras that caught the whole burglary were also still there keeping a close eye on the church.

"Churches are places where people go to be helped and encouraged, and it's sad someone would go there to rob," said Sarah McEllhenney.

According to a police report, the suspect hit the Christian Unity MB church off North Sixth Street in Uptown earlier this month.

McEllhenney told WREG it's a community church.

"I think it's pretty small and local which almost makes it worse because there's not probably a ton of money there for people to replace it cause it's a small church."

Other neighbors said they do their best to keep their eye on the church.

"I be watching that church boy, but I can't stay up all night," said neighbor Willie Taper.
