Armed carjacking suspect taken into custody after chase

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Friday, police released more information on the suspect who led authorities on a chase through the streets of Memphis.

On Tuesday, a driver reported being carjacked on Rolling Hills. He told police the suspect approached his vehicle, pointed a gun at him and demanded he get out of the vehicle. The driver complied.

Two days later, officers spotted that stolen Honda CRV at the intersection of Victor and South Parkway East, and turned their sirens on. The driver, who was later identified at 20-year-old Donterrio Barron, refused to stop and took off. He eventually ran into a utility poll at the dead end of Humber at Person, and then bailed out of the car.

The officer tased Barron after the suspect jumped over a fence.

Barron was charged with theft of property, burglar to wit MV, evading arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, no driver’s license and reckless driving.
