MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Former basketball player D.J. Stephens is behind bars at the Shelby County Jail, facing charges for a violent dispute involving his child's mother.

The 25-year-old was arrested late Wednesday on aggravated assault charges.

According to the affidavit, the victim, Diamond Booker, says Stephens attacked her at a home in the 6900 block of Waters Bend Cove.

Booker claims Stephens grabbed her by the wrists and pushed her to the ground.

She said he then grabbed her neck during an argument and threw her to the ground at least twice, causing her to hit her head.

Booker said she had to sit on the ground for several minutes and had blurred vision for about eight minutes.

Police say Booker had several bruises including scrapes to her neck, face and a swollen and bloodshot left eye.

Stephens was released by the Grizzlies October 22.

He spent his college career playing for the Memphis Tigers.
