MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- PoliceĀ are looking for three suspects involved in a shooting Wednesday night at a Frayser convenience store.

One victim is still in the hospital in critical condition.

"I was kind of alarmed to hear that last night," said Donna Wilhite.

Wilhite lives down the street from the Smart Mart off Overton Crossing and said her neighborhood is usually calm.

"There's not very much going on around here. It's pretty quaint, quiet."

But those who live right by the store said it's a busy spot where people gather.

Police said around nine Wednesday night they were called to the market for a shooting.

Three men went into the store, and one began arguing with the clerk.

Witnesses said the suspects tried jumping over the counter and the clerk told them to leave.

"I'm thinking whoever did it was someone from here or right around," said Wilhite.

Investigators said the argument escalated to one of the suspects pulling out a gun and shooting the victim.

Witnesses told police the suspect fired two or three shots, left and then came back and fired more through the door.

Police said the three suspects then ran out of the store, jumped into their car and drove off while still firing shots.

Officers found the 50-year-old victim on the ground behind the register with a gunshot wound to his chest.

He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

"It worries me someone was shot up there, but I can't do nothing about it," said neighbor Charles Banks.
