MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Drivers near Farm Road and Walnut Grove should finally feel some relief thanks to a project looking to cut down traffic-jam time.

It’s apparent unclogging is needed near one of the most congested interstates in Memphis. It’s so clear, an expansion is on the way. The city will extend the eastbound left-turn lane from 300 to 1,000 feet.

Many drivers are looking forward to the project. They say it’s been a long time coming and they are looking forward to the quicker commute.

Hands to face — that's all some can do to express their frustration with sitting in a constant jam near the intersection. The westbound lane on Walnut Grove to Farm will also extend to 1,000 feet.

"It’s horrible, it’s always horrible. I hope they put a second light up there. I’m a paramedic, used to be a firefighter, and I’ve responded to a lot of wrecks out here," said driver John Wright.

The concerns are many, but hopefully extending the lanes will be start toward addressing drivers' worries.

The improvements will take place during morning and evening times when traffic isn’t so heavy. The project is expected to be completed in a few weeks.
