Police identify victim of late-July shooting in Southeast Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police are investigating a shooting at a Southeast Memphis apartment complex that left one woman dead.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Madison at Cypress Lakes Apartments on Quince Road near Kirby & State Route 385.

Police say the 23-year-old woman was shot inside one of the buildings.

She was taken to the Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified her as Monique Brown.

Neighbors say she was the mother of a young child.

Right now, police don't have any suspects and they're asking witnesses to come forward.

The complex has a history of violent crimes.

In June 2013, a pizza delivery driver was shot during an armed robbery at the complex.

In March 2014, one person was shot during another armed robbery.

Two months later, in May 2014, a man was stabbed several times by two men during an attempted robbery.

Earlier this year, a woman was sexually assaulted by a man who broke into her apartment.
