MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The shots rang out quickly this morning in the 4900 block of Shelter Cove, near Shelby Drive and Tchulahoma, but hours later, the fear still lingers.
“My granddaughter was in the bed with me and she said, ‘Grandma, it sounds like I heard some shots,'” said a woman who didn't want to be identified out of concern for her safety.
The grandmother told WREG she was jolted awake around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when a man was fatally shot near her home on Shelter Cove.
Police said the victim went knocking at a home just doors down asking for help.
He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
Around 11:30 a.m., WREG watched investigators going door to door on Shelter Cove interviewing possible witnesses.
Police haven't released the name of the victim, nor have they said if they have any suspects.
This marks Memphis' 112th homicide of 2016.
