DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. -- The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening near the intersection of Highway 301 and 302 at Citizen's Bank and Trust.

The suspect, who has been identified as 44-year-old Quencezola Splunge, was shot and killed during the incident.

According to a law enforcement source, it all started when Splunge went into a DMV location in Hernando to get a driver's license.

An employee reportedly saw a warrant out for his arrest and called police.

That's when authorities say the suspect got into his car and led officers on a high speed chase.

The chase ended at the bank.

With guns drawn, officers surrounded the armed man for an hour trying to talk him down.

Authorities say Splunge opened fire on the officers, who then fired back and killed Splunge.

Spluge was wanted for aggravated sexual battery out of Chicago.

On the warrant, police states he should be considered armed and dangerous.

A news conference is scheduled for Thursday morning at 10.

WREG will stream the conference online.
