MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Kirby High School teacher has been indicted on charges of sexual battery of a student.

David Burnett, 33, taught audio-visual productions.

Burnett is accused of fondling a 14-year-old student while the student dozed off in the school’s TV studio last December.

The teen told his mother he woke up with his pants unzipped, unbuttoned, and pulled down.

The teen told his mother Burnett then touched him inappropriately.

Wednesday, another student reported that Burnett had made an inappropriate comment to him on Oct. 16.

Shelby County Schools said Burnett has been suspended without pay while Memphis Police investigate the case.

Burnett is free on a $15,000 bond.
