MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A suspect is behind bars for the murder of a Southwest Memphis grandfather and Navy veteran.

Jeremiah Futrell, 20, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on first degree murder charges early Friday.

Police say he shot and killed 51-year-old Albert Farmer, Jr.  back on March 2nd.

Farmer’s body was found inside his home on West Holmes Road after he failed to respond to family members calling to check on him.

Family members say they hadn’t heard from Albert Farmer Jr. for a week.

According to an affidavit, Futrell and another man stole several items including vehicles from Farmer’s home.

Farmer was described as a loving, caring person who joined the Navy when he was 22-years-old.

He leaves two children kids and five grandchildren.

Futrell is due in court on Monday.
