MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A second suspect has been charged in a double murder from January.

Juvonta Carpenter was arrested late Friday night.

According to police documents, authorities responded to a home in the 4700 block of Haven Court on January 9 after receiving a shots fired call.

They discovered Joe Fifer and Tamara Davis had been shot multiple times.

Davis was pregnant, and the baby was deemed viable.

A month later, another man, Gerald Shields, was developed as a suspect.

While being questioned by police, he revealed he and two other men had planned to rob Fifer.

Shields said he knocked on the door, and that’s when Carpenter forced his way inside the home and shot Fifer.

A witness positively identified Carpenter as the person responsible for the murder.

Authorities detained Carpenter on an outstanding warrant Friday.

He and Shields are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

A third suspect is still at large.
