MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local man is facing serious charges after a young family member told school officials he had been raping her since she was 4-years-old.

According to police documents, Lazaro Garcia was arrested on Thursday.

On January 14, the 13-year-old told a school counselor of the abuse.

In her statement to police, the teen said the sex acts began in California, but continued once they moved to Shelby County in 2011.

She was 11-years-old at the time.

She reportedly went on to describe several encounters between the two that have happened since that time.

On Thursday, Garcia gave a statement to detectives but maintained his innocence.

His bond was set at $500,000 and he was scheduled to be in court on Monday.
