MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Central High School student is in custody after bringing a gun to school Friday morning.

School resource officers were made aware of the weapon after a parent told them her daughter said someone had a gun at the school, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The officers found the student in the gym, but he ran out of the building, and they had to chase him for a couple of blocks.

The student suspect threw the gun into the grass of a vacant house, but it was recovered and discovered to be a .22 pistol with nine live rounds, SCSO said.

Officers also found a bag with 32 live rounds when they took the suspect into custody.

The suspect, who is 17, was taken to juvenile court and charged with carrying a weapon on school property and evading arrest.
