Police arrest man who allegedly shot mother in front of children

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Tipton County man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Crystal Herbert-Weathers.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Covington Police Department and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office worked together to arrest Windal Edwards, 33.

Edwards is accused of shooting Herbert-Weathers, 33, multiple times Wednesday in Covington. The two were dating, according to the TBI.

Edwards even pointed a gun at one of Herbert-Weathers’ children before she ran for help. Herbert-Weathers’ two other child were home at the time of the murder as well.

The gunman fled the scene, but officers later found and arrested him at a relative’s home in Brighton.

Family members had identified Edwards as the shooter.

Edwards was charged Wednesday afternoon with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bond at Tipton County Jail.
