MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A brutal attack and shooting in the middle of a Memphis neighborhood.

MPD said a man was beaten and shot in the front yard of an Oakhaven home.

Neighbors said they were scared, but sadly they're getting used to the sound of gunfire.

"I`m use to seeing a lot of police cars that`s what I know to stay away," said neighbor Keira Banks.

She saw police tape, evidence markers and officers from the Organized Crime Unit early Thursday morning.

According to reports, a neighbor called 9-1-1 around six in morning saying she heard gun shots go off next door.

The witness said she saw the suspect pistol whip the victim in the front yard, then shoot and kick his body.

Paramedics took him to the Regional One in extremely critical condition.

"I`ve never seen nothing like that," Banks explained. "I always see police cars and stuff like that, but I`ve never seen a puddle of blood like that!"

Supplies used to keep the victim from bleeding out scattered the walkway into the house.

Banks said a woman lived here and regularly had kids at the house.

"She has a granddaughter who knows a lot of people around here," she said.

"How old is she?" asked WREG's Molly Smith. "A teenager, or younger than that?"

"She`s a teenager. About twelve or thirteen," Banks replied.

She said she was frustrated by this shooting, saying too many people were getting killed over nonsense, and it`s hurting the whole city.

"On top of losing them, they are young," she said. "They don`t have a chance to live their lives. I just think it`s terrible. I`m sick of the violence."

MPD has not released the name of the victim or any possible suspects.
