Former Melrose High band director charged with rape

ST.  LUCIE COUNTY, Fl. -- A former Melrose High School band director was arrested in Florida on a warrant for rape from Memphis.

LeeBrian Walker, 29, faces three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and three counts of aggravated assault.

Walker from  told the arresting officer he fled Tennessee to avoid a criminal investigation.

The warrant was filed in December, based on events the victim said happened in 2013.

A St. Lucie County deputy discovered the warrant while running Walker's license plate.

Walker was teaching in the St. Lucie County School District. He was fired after being taken into custody Friday.

He is being held without bond while awaiting extradition.

Walker resigned from Melrose High School in May 2014.
