OXFORD, Miss –The FBI is investigating a written note threatening the trees and shrubs on the Ole Miss campus.

The poorly written note would appear to be written by a Mississippi State fan, though there is no proof.

The note, which was found Tuesday, reads, “What’s going to happen to ya’ll on the field Saturday Aint nothing compared to what’s going to happen on your beautiful campus. You won’t be one of the most pretty campus’s Next year. A lot of shrubs and trees are going to die; especially in the grove. Can’t stop us” (signed) “Hail State Go to Hell TSUN.”

Ole Miss says police are taking the threat seriously and are encouraging fans to report suspicious behavior

“This longtime football rivalry has separated families and friends for generations, but while it’s spirited, our attention has been focused mostly on the football field,” UM Police Chief Calvin Sellers said. “We encourage everyone to remember that this is a game, after all, not a time for hate. We are hopeful that passions have not escalated to the point that someone is prepared to do damage to a landmark for which all Mississippians take great pride.”

The threat is reminiscent of Alabama fan Harvey Updyke Jr., who pled guilty to poisoning the Toomer’s Corner oaks near the Auburn University campus after the Iron Bowl in 2010.

The only way they might think they can get away with it, is to spray the trees. I have never seen those, but I take it they are very pretty. It would be so lame if someone tried to destroy historical trees and shrubs. I hope Ole Miss and/or the FBI puts up many recording security cameras in those areas to catch and discourage any would be vandals.

I am watching the News at 6:00 p.m. and Richard reported that the letter found on the Ole Miss Campus was probably left my a Mississippi State with no proof. Most people I know (both Ole Miss and State Fans) say it was left by an Ole Miss fan to get the football team fired up. Richard has people believing, again with no proof that a Mississippi State Fan left the letter because of what he said. I taught he might not say things that causes controversy just for the story. This is what the Media has come to and Richard is the Media. I am disappointed.

All I can say is this- if this was written by a college student then you can your paycheck I would never let my kids attend a college were the students can’t read/write basic English.

Since everyone is in agreement that it was a student from one or the other college it sure says a great deal about both of these “educational” institutions. Save your money folks and find a real University to get an education cause Ole Miss schools are worthless.

It’s probably a fan (short for fanatic) instead of a student. Harvey Updyke was an old Alabama fan, not a student. People that take these games so seriously are really pathetically ignorant.
