MEMPHIS, Tenn. --  A woman accused of stealing housing payments from more than a dozen Memphis families faces serious charges.

“We found some discrepancies in her books on leases and deposits,” said James Reedy, owner of Reedy & Company.

Katrina Kelly is accused of embezzling nearly $12,000 from Reedy & Company.

Police say Kelly pocketed money from 14 families, instead of turning it into the property management company, between last fall and this summer.

“It was a web of deposits, application fees, some move in money,” said Reedy.

In the 38 years he and his wife have been in business, Reedy says this is the first time he’s caught an employee embezzling.

“It's very disheartening. She was one of our lead leasing agents, very professional, but as it turns out, maybe not,” said Reedy.

Court records show Kelly is out of jail, released on her recognizance.

Nobody answered her door Thursday.

Those 14 families, who are also victims of the rental rip-off, are in the homes they thought they were paying for all along.

“She was a member of the family,” said Reedy.

Reedy says that the family is moving forward.

“I feel violated. Our company is built with a lot of trust and integrity. We put a lot of focus on that. It hurts," Reedy said.

Kelly heads to court next month.

I just hope they press charges against her & she spends some time in prison, not jail, prison! Nip it now, use her as an example & show them that it’s simply not tolerated. Otherwise, her daughter will grow up & do the same.
