RALEIGH, Tenn. -- WREG has uncovered new details about the family of a 12-year-old Raleigh child shot in the head.

Someone shot that boy and a 16-year-old last week. Police and family are not releasing the 12-year-old's name, but family friends showed WREG the home where he lives with his grandmother.

It's also the house where they say the child watched his mother die six years ago. Neighbors describe it as a house of heartbreak.

"It's very sad," family friend Betty Smith said.

Last week, the 12-year-old boy who lives there was shot in the head. He was taken to LeBohner in critical condition.

The 16-year-old who was shot has been released from the hospital.

Police arrested two other teens, A'King George and Cameron Gates, for the shootings.

"What is the world coming to? The end," Smith said, shaking her head. "That's what it looks like to me."

Six years ago, family friends tell WREG another tragedy overtook the boy's home in the 3800 block of Spring Water.

"The kid's momma got killed out there in the yard," Smith said.

Smith said the woman's boyfriend shot and killed her, and the children in the home watched it happen.

"Those kids saw it and are scarred from that," she said.

It's more than any family should ever have to endure. But neighbors and friends say all they can do now is focus on the present and pray for a child still fighting for his life.

"I pray that he does make it," Smith said. "I really do."

The last update WREG received from police said the child is still in critical condition.

We after all OUR MEMPHIS, and I think we as a CITY should put PRAYER back in our school systems. I think we should say the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE every day and start heading these younger kids in the RIGHT DIRECTION. I am OLD school and we had PRAYER in school. We could pray before a test- that we passed it, we could pray when we got our lunch and it was NO SIN to do so, the football teams could and would pray before a football game to pray whether they won or loss that everyone made it through the game ok without an injury. COME ON PEOPLE, lets put PRAYER and the LORD back in our lives here in Memphis whether other people like it or not. We have let the NON BELIEVERS TAKE OVER and change laws on us and it is time to turn the tables and put the believers back on SPOT and get this stuff to STOP HAPPENING. There is a HELL and I truly believe that people who commit such crimes as these will go there. Parents you can correct your kids and teach them with beating them. Spank them on the butts and make them mind, after all they are yours to take care of and they should NOT be telling you as a grown adult what to do you should be telling them. Correcting them and showing them in the right directions will pay off. We have got to our LORD back or this is going to continue to happen to the young. I pray for this family and these young boys.

Ms. Rufener: Welcome to Memphis. Please do your research. The prominent children’s medical center is named “Le Bonheur…” which means (in French) “The good hour.” It was so named because the ladies who founded the aid society, which led to the creation of the hospital gathered together for an hour at a time to do their charitable work on behalf of poor and orphaned children. If you’re going to work in Memphis, and especially in journalism (or what passes for it these days), please check your information before posting it.
