Power outage affects thousands in Southeast Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Crews from Memphis Light, Gas and Water have restored power to thousands of customers.

The outage began around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday and affected several neighborhoods including Hickory Hill and Fox Meadows, as well as parts of East Memphis and Germantown.

At the height of the outage, more than 14,700 customers were without power.

That number fell to just over 9,000 by 7 a.m.

Originally, MLGW’s website said power should be restored by¬†6 a.m., but MLGW later updated that time to 8 a.m.

An equipment failure caused the outage.

    Our infrastructure is rapidly aging and likewise failing. When its time to change you’ve got to rearrange. Know what I’m sayin?
