MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. -- A 20-year-old Arkansas man is in jail, charged with raping a minor.
You may remember Brandon Odom was arrested in 2012 for threatening a News Channel Three reporter and videographer with a pistol.
Odom was arrested June 13 outside his home in Joiner on the rape charge.
An investigator with the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department said deputies picked up Odom after the mother of the female victim filed a complaint.
Monday, Brandon’s father, Barry Odom, said he believes his son is innocent.
“The only thing I can say is trumped-up charges,” said Barry.
But Ruth Odom said the family’s attorney advised them not to make any comments on their son’s rape charge.
“We have nothing to say...straight out. As soon as we get permission I'll give you a statement. But until then, NO, we have nothing to say,” said Ruth, Odom’s mom.
He was 18 years old when he threatened a WREG news crew with a pistol in March of 2012.
Reporter April Thompson and videographer Ben Short were in Joiner, Ark., following up on the death of 77-year-old Wilton Goudeaux.
The elderly man's three caregivers, including the victim’s son, were arrested and charged with abuse.
Odom, whose sister was one of the accused, became angry when the news crew wouldn't leave.
Odom put his hand on the camera and then went to his truck and got a pistol.
When Odom turned himself in, he gave deputies this BB gun and pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated assault.
He was sentenced to 36 months in probation and 90 days in jail.
Odom's bond is a half-million dollars.
He's scheduled to be in Circuit Court in Osceola June 27 on the rape of a minor charge.
