MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was indicted with first-degree murder for shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend last year.

Xavier Becton shot 35-year-old Tierria Sims while they argued the evening of October 31.

When deputies arrived at her home in the 3800 block of Inverness, Simms was lying on the sidewalk. She died a short time later.

The 40-year-old told officers his gun went off during the argument, but a witness said there was a shot after Sims yelled, “No. No, please.”

Becton surrendered to deputies at a restaurant a few blocks away on Winchester Road.
