Earle, Ark., police officer stabbed

EARLE, Ark. - An Earle police officer was stabbed around 2 Monday morning.

The officer was taken to The Regional Medical Center for treatment and has since been released.

The chief of police in Earle told us the officer was stabbed in the right side.

The officer reportedly saw a man walking down the street with latex gloves and a backpack and approached the man and was stabbed.

"He tried to make contact with that person. He broke away. The officer pursued on foot and caught up with the suspect and a knife was produce and the police officer was cut," said Chief Mike Callender with the Crittenden County Sheriff's Office.

The Crittenden County Sheriff's Office is assisting Arkansas State Police with the investigation.

No arrest has been made in the case.

Investigators say at the time of the stabbing, the suspect was wearing shorts, knee socks and flip-flops.
