(Memphis) A man who tried to run over a police officer is in the hospital.

Shortly before 4 p.m., officers tried to arrest the man at a neighborhood marker near Tulane and Holmes.

Police say the man was wanted for felony drug charges.

The man almost ran over the arresting officer as he sped away from the parking lot.

Witnesses say the officer then shot into the vehicle, which wound up hitting a parking pole and pointing toward the air.

The man was taken into custody and witnesses on the scene say they saw officers fighting with the man, although officers on the scene deny that happened.

I agree this story is very vague-however it does show that MPD officers are routinely assaulted-and yet the city wants to take away their benefits and change how the dept. operates. An officer earlier this week had to be helped by courageous citizens because no one fears the police anymore, nor do they fear the consequences for their actions.
