Former Rhodes College President Passes Away

(Memphis) Rhodes College is preparing to say goodbye to its longtime former president James Daughdrill.

Daughdrill passed away Saturday night.

He was president of the college from 1973 to 1999.

During his tenure, he grew the school’s enrollment and endowment and initiated the college’s name change from Southwestern to Rhodes College in 1984.

His funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian.

Daughdrill was 80 years old.
