(Memphis) If you’re hoping to get away for Memorial Day, start planning now!
Here are three easy ways to snag spring and summer travel savings.
With gas prices steadily climbing and airfare constantly reaching new heights, your spring and summer vacations will surely be more expensive.
“If you want to go Memorial Day do it now, if you’re planning on flying, do it yesterday,” AAA Travel Club Manager Cheryl Keating said.
AAA is also predicting higher prices for hotel rooms this Memorial Day.
According to the agency, guests paid $12 more for rooms last year than in 2012.
Book for Bonuses
Keating says the key to saving on where you stay, is to book for bonuses.
“If you can get a hotel that includes a breakfast, get a hotel that maybe has a cocktail hour or they have transportation from the hotel to the local attraction.”
Speaking of transportation, make sure to ask about whether you’ll have to pay for parking at your hotel.
Take Advantage of Social Media
Another strategy for saving is to take advantage of social media. Lots of hotels and chains use Twitter and Facebook to post deals and specials.
Keating said, “Sometimes it’s good to get out there with your social media, Facebook or whatever you like and just ask some questions.”
If you still haven’t planned your get away, consider cruising. It’s where experts say you’ll still find the most bang for your buck.
“Sometimes they’ll have kids eat free, sometimes they will have gratuity included or sometimes they’ll have a beverage package. They’ll have things that they’ll add to certain cruises, or you can pick the option that you want to include,” Keating said.
If you really want to find a good deal, flexibility is your best friend! Travelers who aren’t tied to a specific date or location will always have more options.
Also, prices are always better before kids get out of school, and after they go back.
