(Memphis) A family of four was rescued from their burning in Whitehaven on Haleville Road.

Neighbors said they woke up to screams.

"[The mother] was screaming for help from a window," said neighbor Ariel Anderson. "All I could think about was the kids."

Neighbors rescued two children, 15 and 7 years old, but couldn't get the mother and 11-year-old.

"We kept trying to pull her, but it was like she was slipping," said Anderson.

When firefighters got to the scene, they pulled the mother and 11-year-old out of a window in the back of the home.

The Memphis Fire Department said the 11-year-old child was taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition, and the mother was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Neighbors said the mother is in the burn unit, because "she was in the home the longest."

The other two children were also taken to the hospital in non-critical condition and were observed for smoke inhalation.

No names have been given at this time.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Neighbors said it started in the front of the house near the living room.
