Jackson Police Investigate Deadly Car Fire

(Jackson, TN) – Jackson police are investigating a woman’s death in a car fire that happened early Sunday morning.

Jackson Police tell us they received a call around 3:15A.M Sunday morning that a 1983 Chevrolet Caprice was engulfed in flames in the 700 block of Whitehall Street.

The victim was 25-year-old Taliesha Souter who was in the car with her 27-year-old boyfriend whose name has not been given.

The preliminary investigation found Souter was driving and her boyfriend was in the front passenger’s seat with an uncovered container of gasoline in his lap.

When Souter attempted to light a cigarette, the gas ignited and caused the fire.

Taliesha Souter’s boyfriend was able to escape the burning car and was transported by to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was treated for burns and released.

Souter was pronounced dead.
