(Memphis) Two people are homeless after an overnight fire destroyed their North Memphis home.

The fire started around 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Barret Place — which is just a few blocks northwest of Jackson Ave. exit on Interstate 240.

Firefighters say flames were shooting out of the one-story house when they arrived. It took them about 45 minutes to put the fire out.

Luckily, the two people who lived there were able to get out on their own before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
