(Millington, TN) The mother of a 12-year-old girl who police say died from extreme neglect is being extradited back to Millington from New Orleans.

Raven Ruth was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and is currently at the Orleans Parish Jail.

Ruth is charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse.

Two other people are also charged with first degree murder and Aggravated Child Neglect.

Chasara Jones and Errol Johnson are charged in the death of Andrea Ruth.

Ruth died of infected bedsores and gangrene.

She suffered from asthma, hypertension and obesity.

Ruth was scheduled to have her legs amputated in May of 2011 because of the gangrene, but the family missed that and apparently all subsequent medical appointments.

According to prosecutors, “At the time of the child’s death on Nov. 24, 2012, at the family home in the 7000 block of Arapaho, paramedics reported that the girl’s sores were so advanced that bones in her toes were visible.”

Jones is a certified nursing assistant who reportedly told investigators she was, “aware of the child’s condition, but she did not notify her agency, law enforcement or the Department of Children’s Services of the problems she saw. ”

Errol Johnson was Ruth’s father.

A third defendant, facing the same charges, has been arrested in Louisiana, but cannot be identified until returned to Shelby County.

Prosecutors say Ruth was 12 years old when she died in November, 2012.

Ruth is described as, “a vulnerable child suffering from a mental disability.”

The arrest warrant said the two neglected the girl, “resulting in serious bodily injury.”

So easy for people to judge when they don’t know the whole story. Several people are responsible for this child’s death. What’s not being said is that when this child’s mother first took her to the hospital because she was complaining bout stomach pains, nothing was wrong with this child’s legs nor her feet. The hospital kept this child for months and they failed to provide the proper care and didn’t allow this child to be moved and the little girl wasn’t getting any blood circulation while laying in the hospital for all that time and this is how she developed gangrene. The hospital sent this child home knowing they neglected this child and didn’t provide proper care. If they wanted to amputate, they should not have sent this child home. Then the cna didn’t do her job. She was there to take care of this child after she supposingly had surgery. If she knew the surgery didn’t take place, it was her duty to report it. Let’s talk about the visits from the social worker, her job was to see that everything was done and when she realized the surgery didn’t take place, her sole responsibility was to report. When they didn’t show up for the surgery, the hospital should have reported that. So we can go on and on but the fact of the matter is, everyone played a part in this child’s death and should all acknowledge that. if they all done their jobs, this child could have still been living.

When I say gotta stay prayed up, I’m talking about myself because only I can give into account for what actions I do and will be Judge only by GOD for it. Therefore, I stay prayed up so that when evil tries to come upon me, I have the assurance that HE will protect me.

News like this from the mid-south no longer surprises me. Is this the new way of life in the black community? This is just so sad and completely preventable.

    Why did this happen?

    • Elismom

New way of life in the black community?…apparently you need a new prescription for your glasses…NEWSFLASH …all sorts of races have been in the news lately for harming innocent children. Don’t be so ignorant and naive.

      • kiddy

I know that’s the truth… she apparently didn’t see the news about the little white boy in Horn Lake, MS that was treated the same way by his dad and stepmother. That little boy was 11 years old weighing 56 pounds and being starved to death. So it’s not just black kids being neglected. This world has gone CRAZY harming children the way that they do! I’ll say this… if you don’t want or can’t handle raising kids, then STOP producing them! It’s VERY SAD to see stuff like this and it’s also DEPRESSING, this is why I stop watching the news!

Its just sad… Look at these white people who directly killed and tortured their kids! The 11 year old in horn lake, a 2 year old in olive branch, those kids that were locked up somewhere in cordova or somewhere (don’t remember exactly). Those kids survived but had custodial parents and one was white and one was black. Its not about race its about ignorant or just down right bad people…

This is not the “new way” of life in the “black community”, but rather is an awful act affecting all communities relative to child abuse. Sometimes this abuse and neglect is so extreme that it leads to the death of an innocent child. We all ought to be concerned about ending abuse and neglect, regardless of race because it is happening too often!!

Jail is to good for her. she deserves to have every bone in her body broke then left to suffer and no one will help her. Then maybe that might be justice.
