Man Jailed For Rape Charged With Assault And Attempted Kidnapping
(Memphis) A man in jail for the rape of a girl on Valentine’s Day has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping.
Kotay Floyd is accused of trying to drag a Booker T. Washington High School student into the vacant apartments in the 800 block of Mississippi on December 20th.
The attacker assaulted the girl before another person chased him away.
On Valentine’s Day, police say Floyd grabbed a teenage girl and dragged her into an empty field. Police say he held the 16-year-old at knife point as he raped and sodomized her.
Police caught him just hours later.
In the late ’90s, Floyd was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and robbery, and he was recently arrested for aggravated assault and domestic violence. Just this past summer, police say he beat a woman with a closed fist and threatened to stab her with a knife.
Police say the teenage girl identified Floyd as her attacker in a photo line-up.
Floyd is also being investigated for other crimes in the area.
People in South Memphis say a man is stalking and trying to grab female students as they walk to and from school.
Delvin Lane, a community activist with the 901 Block Squard, says it’s under the train tracks that pass over Mississippi Boulevard where teens walking to Booker T. Washington High School have been grabbed.
He says the underpass is pitch black at 6 a.m. when the man attacks.
“I know of at least five reports of girls walking to school in the morning time when some guy exposes himself and tries to grab them,” said Lane.
It’s a half a mile away from where the 16-year-old was brutally raped.
