(Jackson, MS) A disturbing discovery has put a construction project on hold at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Testing in the area, where the hospital planned to build a parking garage, revealed 1,000 bodies buried on the site.

None of the bodies have been identified but they are believed to have been patients at the Mississippi State Mental Asylum 100 years ago.

Moving the bodies will reportedly cost about $3 million.

Maybe they should build a memorial that contains a listing of all the known deceased buried there, and let the bodies continue to rest in peace!! This could work, even if a parking facility was built over the graves. Don’t know if the law will allow this, but the horror is that the graveyard was covered/destroyed and forgotten so relatively quickly leaves a ton of unanswered questions in my mind.
