(Memphis)  CrimeStoppers have increased their reward for information in the beating of optometrist Burton Bodan.

The 85-year old was followed into his gated driveway, beaten and robbed in December.

More than 60 people around the Mid South pooled money and increased the reward for information in his case to $17,000.

CrimeStoppers is hoping the large sum of money will encourage someone to come forward.

CrimeStoppers Director Buddy Chapman is also hoping it's an opportunity for people around the area to realize that just because they live in a gated community or a good neighborhood, doesn't mean they're immune to crime.

"We all need to take precautions," said Chapman.

You'll find many gated communities around the Memphis area, and residents at some told us they chose their community in part because it's gated.

But codes are easily shared, people follow others through open gates, and nothing is full proof.

If you are able to help in the investigation into the brutal beating of Dr. Bodan, contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
