(Panola County, MS) A Tate County 11-year-old was shot in hunting accident.

Relatives say the 11-year-old and his 14-year-old brother went to hunt Tuesday morning in a wooded area behind their home, several miles east of the town of Como in Panola County.

We’re told they usually keep a deer stand in these woods, and the boy was apparently climbing up on the stand when one of their guns went off, reportedly hitting him in the neck/collarbone area.

His cousin Ladarious Fonville, who was supposed to hunt with the others, showed us the area where the accidental shooting happened.

”I had told ‘em I’d come.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“You know, cause we had school and they didn’t have school today. When I heard about what happened, I couldn’t do nothing but drop my head you know, and hope he be all right.”

We’re told the boy was airlifted to LeBonehur Children’s hospital in Memphis where he’s getting treatment.

No charges are expected to be filed.

The 11-year-old's condition is stable, and his relatives indicated his injuries are not life-threatening.
