ASU Football Player Among Two Killed In Jackson, TN

(Jonesboro, AR) Two people were shot and killed and another wounded in Jackson, TN Wednesday night.

Johnny Shivers, 36, and Markel Owens, 21, were shot and died from their injuries.

Markel Owens was a football player at Arkansas State University.

Police say Shivers was jumped by two masked men and forced inside a duplex in the 700 block of Walker Road.

Owens and his mother were inside the home.

Police say the suspects demanded money and Shivers fought back, assisted by Owens.

The suspects shot the two men and Owens' mother.

Police say the suspects got away with a large amount of cash and police found, "a large amount of marijuana inside the apartment.

While the motive remains under investigation, police believe the robbers had prior knowledge of the drugs and/or cash inside the apartment."
