Stranded Driver Killed, Police Officer Hurt After Being Hit By Car

(Memphis) A stranded motorist was killed and a police officer injured when another vehicle hit them.

The officer was helping 81-year-old Eugene Divine at Union Avenue and Bellevue Monday night when the crash occurred.

Police say Officer Larry Bailey’s foot was run over by a car going east on Union, which then hit Divine, throwing him over the officer’s car.

Divine was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two women inside the vehicle were detained, but no charges have been filed.

The officer was taken to Methodist University in non-critical condition.
