(Memphis) Memphis police are searching for a man that was seen trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl Friday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing the girl walking to school near Robinhood Lane and Kimball when a man grabbed her by the hair and tried to drag her away.

“I thought it was kid playing over here and then I said she isn’t playing. He tried to abduct her, he was dragging her and I said hey ***** ****** get your hands off her,” said Tim Humphrey.

Humphrey said he ran up to the pair, and a driver passing by also began yelling at the suspect, which gave the girl a chance to get away.

“He was on foot. He ran right up that street right there down Dunn. I told them ‘Hell I couldn’t find my boots. I was going to chase him.’ He started running,” said Humphrey.

The girl was able to get into a friend's car for a ride back to her family's home a few blocks away.

The girl’s father said she was not physically injured.

“That pissed me off, that’s what it did, trying to get a kid going to school,” said Humphrey.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH.
