(Memphis) It is one of the busiest days for FedEx this Christmas season as the company expects to handle 20 million packages Monday alone.

“Our entire holiday season, our volumes are up this year. During our busiest week, which we projected to be the week right after Thanksgiving, our volumes were up 13 percent. Our average daily volume is 10 million, so we are looking at double the amount of packages today,” said FedEx representative Shea Leordeanu.

The season is a good time for those looking to earn an extra buck.

“At a FedEx Express locations like this, the folks get a lot of hours and they are happy to put in those hours because they know how important it is to deliver Christmas to all of our customers.  At FedEx ground, we actually hire season employees at our FedEx ground locations. We hire almost 20,000 temporary employees this year and traditionally about one-third of them stay on after the holidays,” said Leordeanu.

While FedEx ground might slow down as the week progresses, FedEx Express locations will remain busy.

“We can take your packages all the way up to December 23rd, that’s a week from today,” said Leordeanu.

For the first time this holiday season, FedEx is offering flat rate boxes and FedEx Delivery Manager.

“That way you have visibility for every package coming into your house. Whether or not you know the tracking number, you can get texts, you can get emails, it’s up to you. It allows you to redirect your package while it’s en route to your house and you can decide to send it to your office perhaps,” added Leordeanu.
