(Tate County, MS) A former North Mississippi pastor has been sentenced to 30 years in prison plus pay a $51,000 fine for sexual battery of a minor.

Because the case involved a minor, Mississippi law requires Larry Singleton serve 100% of his sentence.

Singleton was indicted by a Tate County Grand Jury in March on 18 felony sex crime counts.

Singleton was charged with two counts of fondling, six counts of sexual battery and 10 counts of child pornography.

Tate County Deputies arrested the 71-year-old in December 2012 after an 18-year-old man told investigators he was forced into a sexual relationship with Singleton when he was 11-years-old.

I hope he get’s what he deserves in prison. If he had the slightest bit of integrity he would have off’ed himself before the trial.

Surely it occurs to some of you with faith that perhaps if religion were even partially responsible for making you a better person that these occurrences would be few and far between.

Your absolutely right. If religion is suppose to change you, why is it always the leaders (the ones you put all your trust in) are doing unthinkable things that are DEFINITELY not acceptable in any Bible? 2 Timothy 3:1-5 mentions “But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves…lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power…” So, how can we tell the difference between TRUE religion and false?

Not a very open mind for a “free thinker”. :) I would challenge you to think that maybe just because someone speaks about faith, doesn’t mean they know anything at all about it. I would also like for you to consider that the devil has a certain following in many places, even church. The bible tells us “you will know them by their fruits” Mathew 7:16. Please don’t let one or even a thousand stand in the way of YOU knowing the truth.

I’m convinced the truth has nothing to do with fairy tales.

My original comment was targeted at those who might have doubts about religion. Hopefully they will realize that it’s possible to lead a happy, fruitful life without the need for a comforting story about streets of gold. It is.

Any god that requires us to be his cheerleaders 24/7 while allowing such incredible suffering, and sending us to be tortured for trillions of years because we don’t, is well, disturbing at the very least.

It’s quite simple D. Think for yourself, review the evidence for and against and come to a logical conclusion – man invented religion.

There have been 8600 gods created by man. Almost everyone dismisses 8599…why not just one more? A dozen religions predate Christianity, but tell the same tale (virg in birth, babe in a manger, 3 wise men guided by a star). Those simply had a poor PR team.
