Deputy Jailer Arrested After Altercation Turned Physical

(Memphis) A Deputy Jailer found himself on the other side of the bars after police say he assaulted another man.

According to an affidavit Gerald Holliman hit a man with a bottle after an altercation in late September. The victim suffered a cut to the back of his head and a concussion.

Holliman was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Shelby County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Chip Washington tells WREG Holliman was the Commander of the Jail Gang Unit, but has been relieved of duty with pay pending the result of the investigation.
