(Memphis) A break-in in broad daylight ended badly for a suspected burglar Sunday.

Police say the man was shot by a homeowner who caught him coming through his bedroom window.

It happened in the 1600 block of Portland, not far from the Ed Rice Community Center.

Glenn Henry didn't know what was going on when he saw police in his neighborhood and was shocked to learn someone had broken into his neighbor's house in the middle of the day, while his neighbor was inside.

"He deserves what he gets as far as I'm concerned," said Henry.

Police say the homeowner heard a noise coming from his bedroom, grabbed his gun and shot a man as he was coming through his window.

Police say the burglar tried to run for it, but the homeowner was able to get the drop on him and hold him in the backyard until officers arrived.

"If I hear a noise I’m going to get him too," said Henry.

The suspect is in the hospital listed in stable condition.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
