Barrels Containing Hazardous Materials Explode

(Memphis) Two 55-gallon barrels of hazardous material exploded at 2105 Channel Avenue just before 7 Friday evening.

Two people were taken to MED because the material got on their clothes. They are in non-critical condition.

Memphis fire was on the scene for more than three hours.

The warehouse is owned by W M Barr & Co Inc., which makes consumer and industrial cleaning products.

Lt. Wayne Cook said, "There are various products here. Some flammable some explosive, so we are trying to identify them and what actually caused the explosion. There were ten of the 55 gallons in that particular area."

Investigators are still determining what the hazardous material was, and what caused the explosion.

All 42 employees that were in the warehouse at the time of the incident were evacuated.
