West Memphis Officers Shoot Man Pointing Gun At Them

(West Memphis, AR) Late Thursday night, two West Memphis police officers shot a man they say refused to put down a gun he pointed at them.

Nathaniel Lee Warren, 41, of West Memphis, wounded in the shooting incident, is in critical condition at a The MED.

At 7:49 PM West Memphis Police Officers responded to a call reporting a disturbance outside Walker Street Grocery, located at 315 Walker Street.

The Arkansas State Police say the two officers saw Warren involved in an altercation with another individual.

Warren was reportedly armed with a firearm which the West Memphis officers say he pointed at them.

Based on initial witness statements, Warren failed to comply with orders to drop the weapon and was shot by police.

Both officers are routinely relieved of their duties.

An investigation by State Police is continuing today and will be turned over to the Crittenden County Prosecuting Attorney when complete.
