(Memphis) Memphis police are investigating a deadly stabbing that happened outside a South Memphis home, near an elementary school.

Mark Brown is charged with voluntary manslaughter after investigators say he and the victim were involved in a fight on the front porch.

Sunday, family and friends of Mark Brown drove off when a News Channel 3 crew showed up and tried to ask them what happened at the Alcy home Saturday night.

Detectives say, 49-year-old Mark Brown was on a front porch when he was approached by a man he knew who had been drinking.

The two men got into a scuffle and Brown is accused of throwing that man over the railing. The fight didn't stop there, police say the man came back over to Brown and they started fighting again. That's when police say Brown pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times.

“I saw the lights, the fire department and the police. I didn't know what was going on,” said Ron Brooks who lives across the street.

“It’s crazy to think less than 100 feet from me somebody lost their life and got stabbed,” expressed Brooks.

The deadly stabbing is also alarming to Brooks because right down the street from where it happened is Alcy Elementary School.

“I just hate that it happened this close to me. I have my little four year old son,” said Brooks.

Brooks hopes what sparked the fight between the two men is isolated, so the dad can go back to feeling safe while raising his son in his neighborhood.

Brown remains in jail on a $200,000 bond. He heads to court Monday.
