Case Of “Brain-Eating Amoeba” Found In Arkansas
(Little Rock, AR) A case of Primary Amebic Meningoencephalitis has been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control.
The area in Arkansas where the case is reported is not known.
According to the CDC website the condition is also known as the “brain-eating amoeba” and can cause a rare and devastating brain infection.
The ameba is commonly found in warm freshwater such as lakes, rivers and hot springs and is contracted by swimming or drinking that water.
