Sky rides and glass balconies are all part of the latest design of the Bass Pro shop that will take shape in the Memphis Pyramid.

The city council got their first look at the latest plans today as it prepares to hand over the keys to Bass Pro to start construction.

The signs will be metallic to match the building, and at night they will be illuminated with green LED lights.

To help pay for all of this, the city is giving Bass Pro $30 million. The money isn’t local property tax dollars – it’s sales tax money from the state that can only be used to develop tourism business. It can’t be used to relieve the city’s budget crisis, keep police and fire stations open, or pay for schools.
