Earlier this week, police shot and killed a man who opened fire on them in East Memphis.

Neighbors told officers the suspect suffered from a mental illness.

It's an unpredictable danger, any time police go on a call.

And it could only get worse, since funding has been cut to help the mentally ill here in Shelby County.
