One of the seven cyclists injured Tuesday on Highway 17 in Arkansas has died.

Merritt Levitan, 18, of Milton, Mass., was one of three airlifted from the scene of Tuesday’s crash.

State troopers questioned the car’s driver, 21-year-old Teagan Martin. The Woodruff County prosecuting attorney will determine if any charges will be filed against Martin.

The group of 13 cyclists was traveling cross-country to Santa Monica, Cali. Overland Summer Camps of Williamstown, Mass., organized the trip, which began in Charleston, South Carolina.

Tom & Liz Costley shared the news on the Overland Summer Camps website:

“This morning we received confirmation that Merritt Levitan of Milton, Massachusetts, died as a result of injuries sustained in a terrible incident that occurred outside of McCrory, Arkansas, while participating in an Overland bicycle touring program. Liz and I, and the entire Overland community, are heartsick by this tragic loss. We extend our deepest condolences to Merritt’s family, friends and loved ones.”
